Hey, black woman!
Where did you go last night, my black woman?
Hey, black woman!
Where did you go last night, my black woman?
You came back this morning.
The sun was coming up.
I feel sorry for you.

I believe that "négresse" is a term of affection, like "baby" in Cajun French. In some songs you'll hear the man refer to himself as "ton nèg[re]", and he might or might not be a black man, but that's neither here nor there.

"Black woman" is a literal translation that doesn't come close to the real meaning. Négresse is a term of endearment, like "baby" or "honey." The singer is taking his girlfriend to task for being out all night -- it's inferred with someone else. This is Nathan Abshire's signature song.

The second time through, the next to the last line is different.
"Soleil étais après s'lever" is correct the first time through, but the second time I believe that line starts with the word "salope", which would be very bad but would also make sense in context, and the rest of that line is clearly different as well, I just can't make it out.
Can anyone else?

Wild Bill I believe you're talking about the verse where he says "Ta robe est toute déchiré. Moj te pas achète un'autre" English:"Your robe was all torn. I'm not buying you another one." With his accent "Ta robe" does sound like "Salope"
